The Monday bitch
By Sam de Brito
No bitching from me today.
On Saturday I watched a guy have a heart attack at my local beach, then wait what must have been 15 minutes for an ambulance as the council life guards worked to save his life.
They managed to get a weak pulse, but he died later, either in transit to the hospital or once he was admitted. I think he was late 40’s, looked pretty fit.
Pretty shitty Christmas for his family and friends. Count your blessings peeps ..
Drivers in Sydney CBD, well sick of them
Geez – that blows, was hanging out for the happy ending there.
Recently lost a good mate – the kind you don’t talk directly to for several months but when you caught up it was like you were best friends since primary school. Always the joker.
Not sad for him though – I only knew him for maybe 4 years, and in that time it was pretty obvious he’d squeezed the sponge of life pretty well and eeked out bucketloads. In the end I cried when I heard he’d died because I knew the vacancy he’d leave amongst the rest of us in our occasional catch-up adventures.
Steve G will be sorely missed.
Bastard.
my friends made me play modern warfare till 5am. I am now sleep working
“Made” you play?
they’re evil in a good way
Loss of a friend for blokes – could make an worthwhile post.
Was that at Bondi? I think i saw him getting worked on as i got out of the surf.
There were a bunch of folks standing around watching. Is that voyeurism or is it just plain morbid. I don’t get it.
It makes me sick to the stomach just knowing i was there.
Manly
I don’t know if you could regard it as either voyeurism or morbid. Who could be so heartless as to turn away if something like that happened in front of them?
Maybe a few got some kinda sick thrill out of it. For the majority, I’d hazard, it was more a matter of respect. If something like that happens right in front of you, I’d suggest you have an implicit duty to witness it.
I don’t understand why it’s something anyone needs to witness? Mortality isn’t a secret to anyone. There’s evidence of how quickly you can be taken from this world every time you open the paper or turn on the news.
If they were offering assistance to the lifeguards then fair enough, but crowding around hoping to get your mug on Bondi Rescue doesn’t sound respectful to me
bystander effect- the more people around, the more anonymous and less accountable you are, the less likely you are to help.
NYE 5 years ago i was first on the scene of a fatal motorcycle crash in the mountains of NZ. A guy in his 30’s in the middle of a bridge, eyes closed and not moving a muscle… Taking his pulse and making the decision not to turn him over to try any form of resuscitation was quite a tough call. Still get the creeps from it even now, makes you appreciate things a bit more when you think about it though.
On a positive note it got me out of a nasty relationship with a girl back home because her reaction to this over the phone later that day revealed her as the nasty piece of work that she is.
Can you do a post on men’s health issues (mental and physical). Seems like lots of people have heart attacks.
I for one would appreciate it.
